Refurbishment and Renovation

Making sure your dreams don’t turn into nightmares during renovations

We all have our dream homes in mind and for an increasing number of people, turning these dreams into reality by renovating or refurbishing high value homes has become a common occurrence. Even less grandiose modernisation can involve extensive refurbishment

Arranging insurance for high value homes undergoing, or due to undergo, such works can be difficult and requires a broker with the necessary expertise within this market to advise you accordingly.

There are three main risks when arranging insurance:

1)     Cover for the existing structure

2)     Cover for the ongoing Contract Works

3)     Cover for your liabilities as land owner

In addition to this, you may also need to insure hired in plant, tools/equipment as well as employers’ liability.

Under a JCT contract with the main contractor, there is frequently a ‘joint names’ requirement (where the contractor is noted as a joint insured). Our team is experienced in the complicated area of JCT contractual requirements and have access to a range of specialist insurance providers.
