In today’s world, businesses are increasingly recognising the importance of social responsibility, and Macbeth is no exception. Some companies just pick a charity of the year to tick the ESG box (Environmental, Social, and Governance).
At Macbeth, we like to do things properly, so we’ve set up a Charity Committee, which enables us to continue our ongoing commitment of giving back to the community.
Our committee not only fosters a culture of giving, but significantly contributes to the well-being of the communities we serve. So, let’s explore the benefits of a Charity Committee.
The importance of a Charity Committee
Promotes employee engagement: The committee creates opportunities for employees to get involved in causes close to their hearts. This engagement can boost morale, and improve teamwork.
Strengthens company culture: A strong commitment to social responsibility can create a positive company culture. It says that we don’t just value profit, we also value people and the planet.
Enhances the brand: Businesses that participate in charitable activities are viewed favorably by both clients and employees. It also boosts public perception and differentiates the brand in a competitive market.
As a business, we have recently created a volunteering policy which means employees are eligible for up to two volunteering days per year to assist with a charity that the business is in partnership with or supports. Macbeth wishes to support anyone undertaking charitable activities including, but not limited to:
• Environmental work and conservation projects
• Fundraising for community project or charities
• The administration of public events for fundraising
• Charity and Community Boards
Charities we support
We are currently in partnership with Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice, a children’s hospice service that provides essential support to families of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. Their story is inspirational and touches many hearts in the community.
Other charities we support are:
• Reading Rascals Junior Triathlon Club – this club aims to give children the chance to develop their swimming, cycling, running and transition skills. It’s affiliated with the British Triathlon and open to youngsters aged 8 to 14 years old.
• Ethical Reading – their aim is to make Reading a better place to live and work through helping organisations become more ethical. This includes everything from the decisions made at the top to the way employees treat each other and the people they deal with day to day.
• Reading Family Aid – this charity helps children living with poverty and other disadvantages in the Reading area. They may be living in a family affected by drug taking, alcoholism, physical or sexual abuse, chronic illness or disability or they may have a disability or illness themselves. Their goal is to bring a little joy to the children’s lives and to put smiles on the faces of children.
• Rotary Club of Reading and Rotary Club of Marlow – The Rotary Club’s aim is how they can best serve the local community, often by holding various charity events around their local area.
We are continually trying to raise money for those that we support. Here are just a few of the events we have coming up:
• Alexander Devine ‘Walk with Me’ Fire walk – (click here for our company Just Giving page)
• Marlow Rotary Club Christmas Run
• Alexander Devine Christmas Giving Tree
• Big Chick Knit
This is just a snippet of what we have planned. Our Charity Committee will be instrumental in planning, organising and executing various charitable events and initiatives throughout the year, so keep your eyes peeled for future updates.
A Charity Committee is more than just a group organising events, it’s a tool for building community, enhancing company culture, and creating a positive social impact. By having a culture of giving, companies not only improve their workplace environment but contribute to the greater good.
Together, we can build a better tomorrow, one initiative at a time.
