Over the past few weeks, I have seen an influx in medical device insurance enquires from manufacturers and distributors in relation to products being supplied to combat Covid19.

The range of products vary from Covid19 testing kits and masks to other PPE and even ventilators. Most of the enquires are looking for cover for UK sales but some are also looking for insurance for the EU and further afield.

In view of the whole enormity and seriousness of the situation I believe that the NHS has relaxed some of their procurement stipulations, at the end of the day, this is still unlikely to impact on who is ultimately liable if somebody is injured by a product and therefore insurance remains a prudent option.

Although we have seen a particular insurer move away from any risk that is associated with Covid19, I do still have access to other markets that will happily consider the products liability risk.
