I once read that it’s not a legal requirement to have home insurance. So that means I don’t need to look at it right now and it can wait, right?
Think again!
As someone who has recently gone through an escape of water trauma at home (that required a claim on my insurance), I would urge you to think again.
I have been a homeowner for 40 years and had never needed to make an insurance claim until last year. Before that, I never gave much thought to my cover and always managed to find a well priced policy online which ticked a box on my ever-growing to do list. 40 years without a claim is proof that you never know when you’re going to need insurance.
Know your insurance policy covers
It wasn’t until things started to go wrong at home that I realised the importance of having a policy that was fit for purpose. Thankfully for me, mine covered my needs but I quickly learnt the value of key items such as Track and Trace and Matching Items cover!
Navigating your Insurance Claim
If the worst happens you need all the help you can get. I learnt that first hand, but with the help of my insurance broker colleagues I managed to steer my way through what turned out to be a challenging claim and with a positive outcome!!
I am fortunate to work for Macbeth and I had the full support of my professional colleagues whilst navigating my claim. An insurance broker may not be your first port of call for buying your insurance but if they have an in-house claims department, they could be your saviour.
Takeaway
A good insurance broker will do all the hard work searching for the cover you need and ensure you have the correct cover in place. . Ultimately a good insurance broker can be the difference between an insurer paying your claim or not.
