BT announces closure of Redcare signalling system in 2025

February 21, 2024

BT’s Redcare signalling system is set to close next year and insurers have warned that customers using this provider will need to find an alternative supplier as soon as possible.

BT Redcare is one of the leading suppliers of alarm signalling systems for both commercial and residential properties in the UK, serving around 100,000 customers. The system sends an alert to the keyholder and/or the police if the alarm is activated.  However, following BT’s announcement at the start of the month, the equipment at thousands of properties will need to be replaced for the alarm signalling to continue to operate beyond 1 August 2025.

While BT Redcare signalling is commonly associated with intruder alarm systems, it’s also important to note that there may be other systems which rely on it for the remote signalling, including fire alarms, fridge temperature alarms, sprinklers and water leak detection equipment.

Avoid the ‘installation bottleneck’

When arranging your new provider, it’s important that customers check the technical specifications of any new signalling equipment to ensure the replacement product for the Redcare system is of an equivalent or better performance standard than the product that it is replacing. There are a limited number of alternative options, so customers should act now, rather than wait until next year when the Redcare service closes.

If customers don’t act now, they risk being faced with delays or even an interruption to their service if there are manufacturing or installation bottlenecks.

It’s crucial to note that prior to entering into any new agreement, a referral should be made to your insurance broker, who will be able to check that the proposed replacement is acceptable to insurers and any other interested parties.

We recommend Redcare clients act sooner rather than later to ensure that your homes and/or businesses remain fully protected in good time and remember to get in touch to check that the new system you are considering fully meets your insurers requirements.

**UPDATE**

It’s been announced that AddSecure will be taking over and continuing BT Redcare’s Next Generation Portfolio, and therefore any client who has an intruder or fire alarm monitored via one of these monitoring products, will no longer need to change their BT Redcare connection.

AddSecure are a leading European provider of secure IoT connectivity and alarm signalling, and are now entering the UK Market with this BT Redcare collaboration.

Willem (Wim) L. Harthoorn, Director of Sales for Smart Alarms at AddSecure, said “Our team is committed to ensuring a seamless transition while upholding the same level of excellence that BT Redcare customers have come to expect. This means that existing services will continue without interruption, requiring no action from customers. Installed BT Redcare alarm signalling units will continue to function as usual. Our long-standing experience in this field, combined with our focus on security, reliability, and customer satisfaction, positions us well to meet the needs of the UK market.”

Those intruder and fire alarms monitored via the legacy range, will still need to have their monitoring product changed, as AddSecure will not be supporting these.
